Monotype wanted us to create a fictional retrospective of a director of our choices films. Having gone through a list of directors and their films that was as long as our arms we decided to go a bit left of field and choose Guy Ritchie because of our wish to have a link with the place that could screen the films and also common themes running through the films themselves. Deciding on the unoffical trilogy of films that is Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrells, Snatch, and RocknRolla. We wanted to express the themes and events of the films in words and typography and decided that tabloid style newsprint of the events that follow the films endings would be a good way of giving the audience a sense of the films without giving away full plots. It also gave us an opportunity to lay easter eggs about Ritchie and the films in the text.
To support the screening we created one main poster which combined the different newspapers from the films then each newspaper existing as a seperate piece. The tickets are old £50 notes which feature heavily in the films and are a keepsake for the audience after the screening and an online element in a cockney translator that also promotes the event and lets people purchase their 'bats and wickets' [tickets] from the site.
