Having not done art at school after the age of 13 I had assumed it was something that I woud never learn, applying for a degree in advertising didn't scream design, it shouted ideas, writing, and strategy however I soon saw that great design is the best way to communicate your ideas. Style, polish and simplicity are the key aesthetics of design, I have self taught myself (mostly) in Photoshop, Illustrator & Indesign to a high proficiency, applying the things I have learnt about good design with practical abilities to create ideas has enabled me to feel confident working as both the copywriter and art director.
I have produced, designed, and art directed 2 issues of [smiths] magazine, the Goldmsiths University Student Union magazine. I wanted to go for a minimal aesthetic focussing on strong text complemented with simple visual stimulus, I was personally responsible for the final layout of each spread, the template styles and the use of font in the magazine. I also contributed several designs for articles, final photo edit on all images, the cover, contents and credits pages.
Issue 2 coming soon.
